Five to Nine

A Drum and Bass track made for an Elektronauts challenge to make a Drum and Bass track in a non 4/4 time signature.
I’ve realised that I’m more motivated with music if I try and include something I haven’t done before or rarely do in a track so given that I’ve done a 5/4 DnB track before I thought I would try and do a track which changes time signatures as i’ve never done that before and indeed didn’t even know how to do that in Bitwig.
The main part of my track is in 5/4 and then the turnaround is in 9/8 which I think gives it a bit of a prog / fusion feel. I then went into 4/4 to release the tension a bit before going back to the 5/4 section.
The track was made in Bitwig.
The Amen was chopped using Amigo which is an amazing plugin for £10 and gives the track a really nice crunchy low bitrate sound. Highly recomended.
The things I’m proudest about are:
The fact that from the intro you might think that it was going to be an ambient thing and the break comes as a surprise, but then it sounds quite natural when it comes in.
I’m also really happy with transitioning from a pure sine sub (Sublab) to fading in a reese bass. I think that sounds really menacing.
The initial riff is Arturia Pure Lofi which is a fun plugin I hadn’t tried before
The other synths are Dune 3 and Proxima.
