Exploring the Frozen Lake

By NickLong on January 25, 2026 2:23 pm

Another computer game themed track, but this time I removed the restriction on 3 voices and 8 bit type sounds so it's using Hive with some more contemporary sounds and an 808 style drum machine with Bitwig.

For this level our hero has found the pool in the woods only to discover that it's frozen over by magic and he must explore this strange frozen landscape.

I used 6/8 to evoke the feeling of skating and used chord changes using some diminished passing chords to try and give the harmony a very smooth feel.

Here is a visualiser.

Thanks for the visualisation, I like to imagine it's full of sparkles!

I would like to imagine Andy Bell in his outfit from the "Always" music video skating around whilst singing to track
