Battle In the Crystal Cavern

By NickLong on March 1, 2026 6:45 pm

The latest in my weekly beats tracks.

This time we are moving on in my game themes to the PS2 Era and a JRPG style theme.

The setting is the main character adventuring into a Crystal Cavern (Inspired by Vanilla Dome from Mario). The twinkling synth represents the sparkle of the crystals.
The flow of the song represents exploration, being discovered by the monster an ensuing battle and then finally escape.

The track was made on Bitwig mostly using Synapse Audio the Legend Hans Zimmer synth for the epic Moog style bass and cinematic pads.
There a few bits of Diva, Repro (The excellent organ sound), and Pianoteq layered in with the synth.

Generally I'm quite happy with how this turned out, especially the chord change and more intense post rock section at around 2:10 which is very influenced by "In a house, in a heartbeat" from the 28 Days Later soundtrack.

Video made in Vizzy with the help of Gemini Veo.

The production on this is wicked. Great clarity on everything. You hit the nail on the head for a badass game track. I was not expecting it to crush such a massive beat and work back to the original melody so cleanly.

Favorited for sure. This is one of the better tracks I've heard on WB this year.

Wow, thank you so much I'm floored by that comment!

Music for the first *really* challenging dungeon of the game. The crystal melody is very bright and cute with a steel drum vibe. So the evil Moog growl drop blindsided me: "Oh, you thought this was another tutorial zone? Good luck!" The hip hop battle drop is excellent, especially the bass/lead duet. And the minor mode shift at the end is really good at raising tension without just layering a bunch of instruments on top. Nice work!

Man I love the tone on that bass... VERY epic

Thanks!

It's "The Legend HZ" which based on Hans Zimmer's Moog Modular.

It sounds absolutely massive!

This is a whole soundtrack in less than 3 minutes. Everything weaves together nice and tight with slick production.

Thanks chap.

I'm always trying to keep things punchy and moving along. I'm working my way up to longer arrangements as I get more confident.

Awesome, some ballsy ass bass on this track.
