acid daddy part one

By neon liminal on March 31, 2024 8:39 pm

I'm late for feeding the dogs. Ableton decided to give me no ends of problems mastering this track. But I'm gonna write crap here anyway!

Change of pace this week - M8 got a vacation, I tried to wrangle time-management and make this week's track entirely in Ableton, featuring Arturia's Acid V, with some help from Heavyocity Fury and Vast ... and the Lyra making an appearance as a bizarre side-chained pad to hold up the bass. I'm pleased with the result. There's bits I'd tweak but I'm out of time!

There will probably be an Acid Daddy Volume 1 with a selection of tracks from my first 12 weeks of WeeklyBeats, and maybe this'll be the first track on Volume 2....

Also - playing the cutoff is fun. I wish I could do that and record it on the M8.

Edit: it sounds loud. There's definitely issues with the master. But I'm out of time! Sorry if anyone got startled!

Edit edit: ITS LOUD. Upgraded my mastering software last week and clearly they've made some changes I need to seek out and adjust cuz now I'm hearing some balance issues I don't like either. Learning for next time lol. Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

Man. This sounds great to me! Really engaging the whole way through. I know what you mean about wanting to play the filter live on M8 ... I've been wanting to grab a midi knob or two to do that. Nice work on this song!

It's loud but it's a banger!

this to me is good techno. it evolves, it keeps something interesting around and when it gets even slightly stale there's something else beginning. well done

Haha, yes, it's loud but that's fine. You also put the hihat pretty loud in the mix, but it works! The major chord in the middle of the track is chef's kiss.

ugh i love this! really had me moving and grooving, especially the second half. the distorted acid sounds so delicious. nicely done!

Holy crap, this feels so FULL! This is awesome, the pumping vibe is intense!!! I also like the change of pace and tones around 2:00. It's worth mentioning I couldn't notice any issues with the mix, but then again, I know nothing about proper mixing. It all sounds good to my ears!
Man, I love the high pitched melodic synth at around 3:00. Really great work here!!!

Look daddy I'm replying!

Thank you! I know recording midi automation is complicated and not really a tracker thing. I've been wondering if I could achieve similar results with tables but that might be silly. I'm thinking some distortion modulation knob fun in Ableton post m8.

I think I tracked down the loud issue lol. Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks! Hihats and the upper range are a persistent challenge, I don't always hear it right on the m8, and I apparently don't hear 6k very well, but we are getting there.

I am honoured! Thank you! I'm really after this techno thing to learn to make things that move people, glad to hear it's working smile

Thank you! Ableton lets me go pretty far into wall of sound territory, it was super fun lol

I like daddy loud, much easier to dig into the groove
Got some very sweet movements to it too
