Live to Lathe, the second

By mysterioso on December 4, 2016 5:07 pm

Our second visit to the lathe cutter! Another improv performed and recorded direct to lathe, this taken straight from the desk. We're planning a larger release series, so the sonic palette is remaining constant.
To my ear I am hearing a strong Supersilent influence coming through, which surprises me 'cos I've not listened to them for a few years now.

What limitations are you encountering going direct to disk? Sounds like you're getting a good dynamic range.

100% like it. I would gladly to go to your show.

We spent an evening on micing and mixing, testing the levels for the amps, the overheads, balancing placement, bleed and l/r placement. We wanted to use as little in the way of compression and limiting as possible and also to waste as few discs as possible!
In performance, our main hurdle ended up being the amount of time we played for.
The prep-work paid off 'cos I think we only over-ran on one disc and ended up with an inspired last-minute locked groove outro on another smile
