obscura materia

By mwmwmw on November 24, 2024 6:25 pm

this track came out of discussions around music theory, and some of the deeper ways i think about music.

the idea i'm working with here, is that each interval type has a circle(s) (like the circle of fifths), and you can base harmonic structures on them. I'm using the rings of diminish 6ths. That creates 4 circles, each an augmented chord. then noodling aronnd with that. the 1->dim6 leap is straight out of star trek. if i made youtube vids i'd call this vid, using the star trek interval lol (with astonished looking face pointing at the enterprise).

i feel like it sounds like the discovery or unlocking of ancient technological artifacts on other planets (total recall maybe), or scientist working alone in a lab, late at night, creates an amazing breakthrough.

i think because of they mysterious-positive vibe of this track, it's solarpunk. an optimistic, utopian vision of the future where we all ride bikes, live off of sun power, and do designer recreation pharmaceuticals.

made in fruity loops with Mellotron, Grandeur, and Harmless.

whoa very cool music theory based exploration tune. I can get behind the bike riding, sun powered designer recreational pharmaceutical vision of the future. This song gives me hope for the future. Favoriting

Absolutely love the theory you built this around, and the track you got out of it. Those choral pads are so thick and lush, they sound great. It really does sound like a soundtrack to a better future. I'm with SQF, it gives me hope. Thank you smile

"designer recreation pharmaceuticals" you say? Hmmmm.... Interesting.... Hahahahaha

I do like the future you paint, and I can 100% see it being scored by this piece you made. I really like the "finding a sacred artifact" vibe you alluded to, that's such a great way to describe what the tune feels like. Great work!

like tylenol, but for fun. when you're having a fun ache.

Happy and sad are just constructs here, this is about something far grander than just us. You can tell by the choir being all weird.
