cmouse cymposium

By mwmwmw on August 11, 2024 6:14 am

cmouse cymposium is an interpretation of the meme genre "hit em" which feature 212 beats per minute of 5/4 time. I think is more like 10/8 time tbh, but SHRUG.

i wanted to capture that PLUR vibe from late 90s hardcore rave scenes like hulaballo in Toronto, and just a happy hardcore vibe in general (well, as happy as a mixolydian scale will let you be).

I think the sounds could have been a bit crunchier. prob just needs to be hammered through some distortion. NEXT TIME.

hit em

Woooaaaaah. Love the Minimal approach to this. The time signature keeps it all interesting the whole way through. Damn then it just goes ham at 1:30. Love those percussive elements towards the end there.

It's gotta be so hard to write at 212 bpm, but it works! Seconding that_ranjit, some really neat samples when it switches up. I also grew up listening to happy hardcore music, and bits of it did bring me back. heart nice work!

DREAM GENRE MUSIC. This is awesome. Cool beats going on in the beginning, and that switch up at 1:22 is amazing. Agree that it needs to be a touch crunchier (HIT ‘EM), but this is fantastic all on its own.

(Side note - never listened to Happy Hardcore as a genre, only familiar with the name because it’s a drum preset on my MC505 big_smile)

Damn! You really made that rhythm work! So many fantastic ideas, and somehow it's still coherent. Makes me wanna have another go...

I thought the same thing when I heard your version as well! Gonna give it another shot. why not 20 weekly beat tracks left in 2024.

In retrospect it's the most annoying genre ever but I loved it at the time.

Gonna give it another shot and get a little crunchier.

Thank you! 212 is a little too fast. I just end up skipping the beat a little, but maybe i should start at a low BPM, then ramp up so I don't cheat.
