aes somnium

to make this track, i did a diary approach where every so often (daily or so), i added a few little parts. at the end of the week i had about 30 minutes of different pieces and parts that i felt told a little story.

i'm not the best piano player and so i feel there are some noodly bits in here that i thought i could make more direct (i tried) but felt it made it less sincere so i just left it as is.

i see a ritual that you don't understand. old and the meaning has been lost. you participate out of muscle memory, but there is something missing.

or... it's a refusal. rejecting supplication to a god who has cursed you. so it's an act of bravery.

or it's like watching something burn, a memento of some kind, and you watch it fade from sight as the last ember burn. the shape remains, but turns to ash. eventually, the memory fades too. frightening, but, no going back now.

yeah, i like that. but i like it vague where you can derive your own meaning.

what do you see?

My heartbeat went up a notch listening to this ... not during the build up, but before, like you hinted that it was coming and my sub conscience pick up on it. Really lovely piano playing! Nice work.

Meanings can be subjective and depending on your mindset at the moment, you can see different things. I like that you gave us a few clues but left it open enough for interpretation.
If I had to put an image to it, I feel like it would be something very contemplative like, sitting by the sea watching the waves crashing down, watching birds fly or maybe sitting still gazing upon the mountains.
I really enjoyed this track. Wish it was a bit longer.

Musical improvisation is, i believe, about as close to telepathy as we (alive today) will ever get. that's me you're feeling! I didn't use any quantization, so everything is as it came out.

there are so many talented piano players on WB i hope none of them hear this lol. or maybe i make the sheet and get one of them to play it next time.

Ohh I like that.

For WB's I tend to keep a bit on the short side. Knowing there are ~160 tracks to listen to, i'd rather give you a tight 2:40.

Way to distill 3 minutes of music from 30. I went in the other direction haha

The piano is delicious, both the sound and how you play it. Very organic, both in performance and the timbre. The soft distortion fits the track well. I like how the piece opens up after minute 1 with the additional strings, choir, and ambience, but the piano stays the solo instrument.

What I'm seeing is a cinematic piece that fits many shots and moods. A sallow field with burned out shacks, a giant stone space station, an empty street where rain starts falling.
