step lightly

Hello week 10 friends, thanks stopping by!
Every week I feel like I procrastinate a little bit more and get a little closer to the ideal speed trash scramble scenario. This track could use more work to fill in and balance out some of the sections, and I'll probably come back to rework it in the future. Also you may want to turn down the volume a bit!

This week I discovered and researched two-step/UK garage via Graz's Diamond Eyes . I really love the energy in that track and aimed for something similar (and definitely arrived at something waaay more pared down
).
two step drum patterns are super fun! It's like DnB/jungle drums, but at 120-135 bpm. As long as you have snares on 2-4, you can do a lot of funky things with the kick and hats (and applying swing on hats+shakers). There's a lot of room for experimentation. I love to avoid a 4-on-the floor if I can help it.
Some more notes:
- filtered hypersynth (saw) pads and chords w/ a touch of reverb and distortion
- a lot of the kicks are 909 kicks layered with other percussion
- I dabbled with layering multiple instruments for the bass and leads
- the melody is just notes from the chords in the progression. Straightforward but it gets the job done
Thanks for listening!
