Spectral Meeting

Welcome to week 6. Congrats friends, we made it~!

-- Story --

Deep in the woods, you have summoned three ancient spirits. You need their advice.

The first one to speak is small and somewhat unhinged. An ominous presence.

The second one is confident and self-assured. A playful trickster who has a way with words.

The last one is abstract and formless. An amalgamation of jagged shapes shifting in and out of focus.

-- Production Notes --

This track is a little more experimental. I wanted to push the m8 to not sound quite like the m8. I modulated SO MANY THINGS and tried to find some really abrasive sounds. I also discovered that M8's OTT can do some really funky things to your mix if you're not careful. It definitely helps to spot check your final render.

Thanks for listening!

Very nice! I'm all in for experimenting on the m8, so much possibilities within the limitation the device has, is fun to find ways to do things

The story reminded me a bit of zelda, the sounds are quite interesting for coming out of the m8! You def put a lot of effort into finding nice designs heart The rhythm is also refreshing, great work

I agree using the ott for mix check can be a nice tool, I was also thinking about using it as a compressor, quick rendering a single track for example with high ott then tone it down for final mix

This is really big and evocative. I really enjoyed the story along side it.

great m8 sound design work! Agree with coldsushi, OTT can get willlld. Nice track

Very cool track, really interesting sound design.  I love the string sounds, and then the glitchy voices that come in around 2:45, just super cool.

This was a lovely escape.  It felt like each spirit had their own unique sound and atmosphere.  Well done!

Really nice little mini-suite, it feels playful and wanderlust as much as it does experimental - there's a complete story here. I also had a very pleasant nostalgic memory of walking around 3rd-person fixed-perspective cityscapes in old video games which was kinda awesome!

Aww thanks bud heart. I gotta admit I've actually been pretty inspired by all the fun crunchy bass sounds you put in your tracks. Still getting a handle on how to make something similar (and of course all the other music and m8 things), but it's getting a little easier every week. For the story I was imagining the 3 spirits as devils from Kill Six Billion Demons, but I could totally see it being set in the world of Zelda smile

Thank you both for listening! The story was kind of last minute and is the first time I've felt inspired to write it for one of my tracks. On Sunday morning I had the first two sections mostly done, but was really struggling to figure out the third. Eventually I started to think of the the first two parts as voices in a narrative, and that helped me decide on a goal for the third voice/section.

Thank you! I'm definitely still developing my ear for OTT. When I crank it, all I hear is "louder", "different" and sometimes "different louder" tongue

Thank you for the thoughtful comment smile that's wild it was nostalgic (mostly because that's the first time I've heard someone say that my music!). I think I can imagine the game you're describing but also super curious if you had any specific ones in mind

The opening is nice and light and feels very off-grid. The second part is more conventional but has a nice groove. The strummed lead is really nice! The guitar chord/pad is used really well.

Aww thank you! The piano definitely has quite a bit of MTT sprinkled through out. Production-wise, once I had the bones of the 3 parts, I just decided to randomly throw around snippets of them at the end. I guess that's how I try to glue things together smile
