So Many Locked Doors

By MRDRCAT on February 18, 2024 10:05 pm

I've had a massive brain fog regarding creation for the past week or so. This is the result of me just doing a bunch of random stuff and then trying to bridge it together into one (tonally inconsistent) mess. They can't all be winners! Chopping up some more samples from the early-70s public domain thriller Die Sister Die.

This mixes chippy sojnds with some dope sample work and a sick ass beat. Not sure I see any tonal inconsistency, though. Just some awesome and fun experiments that went wondrously right! I especially enjoyed the melodies from the higher pitched synth in the second half. Awesome job!!!

Great find with the public domain thriller. I never thought to look for stuff like this. So the track was worth making just to share that knowledge. Thanks!

I can relate to the pressure of releasing week by week, hopefully we'll get through our writer's blocks!

Ha ha thanks! It was fun just layering noise upon noise here, so even though I'm not happy musically, it was pretty fun to toy with! That synth might have to show up in another track some day.

I'm sorry to hear you're blocked as well - I've just been forcing my way through it. Even if the result isn't great, sometimes you get a couple a-ha moments that come in handy in the future (like the synth patch jegasus enjoyed). That makes the effort worthwhile.

If you want, the film isn't bad, and it's loaded with overblown dialogue and cagey performances. Great fun to sample! I comb through archive.org from time to time looking to see what's available. This one is at https://archive.org/details/DieSisterDie

I like how this one is still happy and upbeat, but has teeth…the tones and beats have an edge to them. And holy crap, love the sample work in here…the rhythmic chopping weaves them in a way that’s just *chef’s kiss*.
