Office Gossip

I wanted to go out with a bang, so I tried pulling together a lot of my favourite lessons learned throughout WB2024 and make something melodic that keeps moving. Like something that would play over my own ending credits for WB. I hope I pulled it off!
This track took 3 hours to "compose" followed by another 6 hours of rearranging, fiddling with patches, timing the vocal sample, more rearranging, re-processing the vocal sample, troubleshooting the complementary lead (the distressed bell that starts everything - it was SO distressed it kept disappearing in the mix, and honestly that's a whole 2024 mood), fleshing out the drums, and tweaking the levels and mix. It did not feel like nine hours (I expected the M8's internal clock to say maybe around 5.5). This was a fun one to work on for sure! The patches are all originals that I've developed over WB this year, with the exception of the kick and snare (those are Trash80's FM drums). The machine sounds are an old, temperamental brochure folding machine at my work, and the vocals are left over from Week 17.
WB has been an amazing & fun challenge, and I think now I understand why people speak of it fondly, miss it, and also are a little relived when it skips a year. This is a fantastic community and I want to thank everyone for being so generous with their time & constructive criticism. I'm already looking forward to/dreading 2026.
