Nightmare at Zero G
By MRDRCAT on Yesterday 10:58 pm
Back to the Stylophone DS-2! The past couple weeks have been a lot. Had to do some adulting, but also had some fun, bit then got some bad (but not fatal thank goodness) news about one of our cats, so spending most of the past week's free time either at the vet or eagle-eyeing the cat to make sure he's doing okay. There is stress, but not insurmountable.
Why not channel that anxiety into some nasty drone noise?
The DS-2 is handling the low, persistent ambience, while the Volca Beats provides the kick & delay, and the Stylophone S2 gives us that horrible metallic thing that revs up and down, gets harsher, and generally makes it unlistenable. Recorded via TX-6 into AUM on my phone with a little compression added in Audacity.
This is by far the best take. I'm still working on keeping things interesting, attempting to establish some kind of narrative, and not completely losing myself in the fun noise and recording for an hour. I did have to do a little edit at the end (which actually makes for a cooler ending than the original), since my partner came in to ask me a question and I got distracted.
I am slowly building my way toward a space-themed EP (or possibly album?), and I'd like to have short edits of these drone pieces as interludes between the main tracks. I'll have to start making some more positive-sounding drones so the finished product isn't a complete downer.
Finally: I am so sorry I haven't been commenting/participating in the community for the past couple months. I have to direct my limited energy to all the random real-life garbage that keeps happening. But I have been listening to WB when I can (mostly at work) and y'all are out there making some amazing music that really keeps me going every week. I'm quiet, but appreciative!! ![]()
