Nice Castle

Caught a cold before I even started my WB submission, so I got hopped up on cold meds and knocked this out. 1.5 hours to get the synth patches created and the track sketched out, another half hour to tweak some variation into it, then over two more hours to get the voice samples in place. Why is THAT what takes the longest? I wanted to use a horror movie, but nothing actually horrifying. Bloody Pit of Horror to the rescue! This 1965 horror movie has awful dialogue, worse delivery, and just the right mood for this track. It's not "Death Bed: The Bed That Eats" bad, but it's not good.

Not sure what the mix actually sounds like - probably too bassy, but either way I'm sorry.

Mix sounds great!

The arrangement of the song and the samples feel a little bit like a fever dream - I was sick on Monday and Tuesday and sleep like this smile Where it feels like you’re wandering around between scenes. Really liked the feel of this track - very much felt like scenes with intermissions. And I need to find this movie!!

Man I love your taste in samples.

Not too bassy at all. Feels nicely balanced. Well done.

Back in 2011 or 2012 I did a watch party with a group of college friends where watched Death Bed, and it was so gloriously horrendous, hahahaha...
Also, I never realized you put in the vocals at the end! That blew my mind!! When I use vocal samples, I think the vocal chops are the parts that I try to get out of the way the soonest, mostly because they have such potential of locking you in a particular tempo or key or something. Super curious to hear you do it the other way around! If you're down to share, I'd love to see some of your work on vocals on stream!
Anyways, enough talking shop! The song itself! This is a very fun tune! I really like the percussive elements here, especially how small but effective they feel. Like bugs, carrying 1000x their own body weight.
I feel like I'm saying this to many other submissions this week, but super enjoying your higher pitched melodic lines, these are awesome!

🏰 Zelda Vs Dracula! Love it.. great samples work so well with the track 🩵

The movie is kind of a fever dream! Make no mistake, it's bad all around, from "product of its time" to "we're not actors" to "who needs more than exposition?" It's on archive.org if you get the bug, but...you have better things to spend time on, trust me smile

Thanks! One of the things I was trying to do with this one was keep the different parts in their own sonic territory without muddying things up too much. I have two parts that kind reach into the bass territory, but hopefully they're not at war.

Thank you! When I add the quotes is kinda based on when I get the idea. For week 2 I knew I wanted EBM with news clips, so I left space while I roughed in the track, then added the quotes and tweaked the track around them. Most of the time, like this one and "Let's Judge Children", I'll get the track assembled and during the tweaking process I'll realise it needs something to break up the music. That's when I start hunting around for quotes. I guess it never occurred to me to try building a track around some cool vocal chops.

The two things I wanted to do with this one were the light tuned percussive bits that start it and a melody that did more than A-B-A-C. The percussive bits hit my head while I was making coffee, so I grabbed the M8 and dumped them (they actually sound the way they did in my head!). Then I grabbed that square patch and started melody-ing. I really wanted things to stay clean and simple and to leave space...which I then filled with the movie quotes. Oh well...

Thanks - I figure since I can't sing, I should have something interesting in there! smile

Would like to blast this in a big empty warehouse or bunker! big_smile

Sick production, really cool movements throughout. Might be a little bass heavy, but that might also just be my setup. Think it kinds fits either way!

Seamless transitions! Keeps you intrigued the way through. Cheers. Great work

Pleasant listening

I like how 'disjointed' this sounds. Which is a bit of an overstatement. But in the best possible way, it feels like the different elements that make up the tune each want to do their own thing. The melody seems to want sprawl out. The longer notes seem to want to take off, but end up going nowhere. And the drums imply more complexity than that they have. Making it a fun piece to listen to. The samples brought a smile to my face, they're so dry/bad sounding that they're good again. Anyway, lovely little track!

Fun Halloween music for a cavernous castle. The hollow lead bass has an adventure groove and pairs nicely with the rich buzzy secondary bass. Jegasus is right about the high melody, and I also really like the phasing(?) countermelody just under it. But my favorite is the twitchy percs, especially where they get to solo around 1:50
(Hope you feel better soon!)

The Nicest Castle I've ever heard lol. Also hope u start feeling better too smile

The melodic line(s) are great, I think the mix is balanced too! I especially enjoyed the work on drums which do an excellent job in your track!

I love that 32nd-note melodic line, haha. Mix sounds good to me! The percussive elements are really nice too, and I always appreciate sampled dialogue from old horror flicks smile

pitch envelope on kick goes chump, chump. Well done especially given how you felt busting this out.

Wow, this is really awesome stuff... love the bass throughout

these synths feel like a cozy carpet. Love how it ends hanging in the air

Oooh that crunchy pluck/blip is so nice. You got one of them fancy castles huh
