I had this thrown together in 2 hours and spent another hour fiddling with some phrases and the mix. This is right out of the M8 with no mastering or anything, just a little of the M8's limiter.

After the last week's sprawling 5-minute dungeon crawl I wanted to do a bright, simple track where things kept changing. I did that by varying the note phrases in each chain, adding new instruments, and iterating as quickly as possible. It had to go fast and I didn't want my brain to get in the way. The drums/percussion are all very simple and don't change much because I wanted something consistent to balance out the instruments. The instruments could only repeat if there was change or an additional instrument somewhere else. Any melodic structure is an accident, since I was keeping whatever notes worked first and moving on. If one instrument was moving quickly, its counter had to slow down. Two similar patterns couldn't sound at the same time, and there's one part of the track where two of them do a loose quarter note call & response specifically so they can't play at the same time.

It was made to see how fast I could make something coherent based on restrictions in place to keep the whole thing moving forward. It's formulaic, sure. But I kinda actually like it, and maybe I can get ahead for next week!

gives me oldschool biological game vibes smile nice work.

After the first minute, when the voice start forming chords, the track opens up quite nicely! I liked your description of your process as well. Very cool to try something new and see where it takes you.

Take this in the best possible way: your lizard brain knows what it’s doing!

This track evolves and spreads, then builds and interacts with other lines in a really interesting way. I love that you specifically allowed this track to just happen, and didn’t fuss too hard about how things would work together. A fun experiment, and a good track!

Fun track big_smile Especially with the high note playfulness (that turns into a full melody at around 2:08). Nice!

Like this a lot, particularly the bouncy bass sound and the synth that comes in around the 1:15 mark. I like the process, time limitations quite often mean we need to just let things get on with it rather than letting preconceived ideas get in the way!

that bass sound is rad! Agree with dancramp love whats going on at 1:15
Well done!
