Hull Breach

Third attempt at a Week 8 track, this one was started as I was at a local brewery waiting for a delicious Italian beef sandwich. I had the idea for the bassline and wanted to get it punched into the M8 as quickly as possible. There was also an inkling of arps. As things developed it started sound more to my ears like a space-themed track, so I leaned into "crisis at the science outpost" mode.

The sounds all went through some changes as I tried to get space (ha) carved out for everything, but the sharp, meowy lead took the most fiddling. As it got weirder, I started to like the bonkers noise it added to the track. This is one of the tracks where it was sketched out in the first 2 hours, and then I more than doubled the production time listening, tweaking, listening again... Trying to use RMR's rule, something like if you can listen through 5 times without wanting to tear it apart, it's done.

I probably won't want to tear it apart until tomorrow, so I'm calling it done.

Oh wow this is doing something! Loving the arppegios the gliding leads. Really cool composition! Interesting idea listening it through 5 times before calling in done…

Yes! Those fast apps were the best ... then the gliding lead came in and now I can't decide which is best. Why not both?! And you delivered. I could listen a lot more than five times!

gdit mister doctor, this was a great listen. the arps are my favorite part. I wish I could do arrangements like this (I always clutter my stuff).

Definitely a spacey sci-fi vibe and that meowy lead is super cool.  Great energy, too.

Oops I meant to share the bundle for this one - here 'tis: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16p_vJhIOXhVwcQp43knLOyEBEeRk4eVJ/view?usp=sharing

Thank you! This is one of the rare tracks that kept me excited through the creation process, always finding weird experiments to try. Yeah, RMR has some great practical advice on how to keep producing music. He's a massive inspiration.

heart I won't make you listen that many times! The arps were lots of fun to play with. I'm not breaking any new ground, but...why would I want to? wink

As a fellow track-clutterer, I feel you! Most of the time *I* can't do arrangements like this. But that's what WB is for - we crank 'em out fast enough that there's no time to overseason the audio soup! I've been trying to force space into my tracks this year, since most of the time there's no breathing room.

Thanks! I enjoy upbeat/fast stuff, so when something like this actually comes together I'm RULL happy!

Arps are so good here, not just the speed switches but also the sparkles that trail them. And the drums *snap*, with the fast triplet kick rolls and the sharp snare really pushing a sense of urgency.

But of course the cat lead takes center stage. Lovely slides throughout, expressive enough to morph from a siren to realistic "give me attention now!" yeowls. And it adds a bit of lightness to an otherwise panicked track. Don't let the kitties distract you; stay on course!

Arps, glides, great bass & the classic Mrdrcat composition! What's not to like!? Love it!

That bass goes hard I really like the tempo shifts and that arp is super ravey.

It's got a 90's game music vibe that I enjoy.

trippy space cat vibes =^.^=

Awesome sauce

Super badass scifi vgm. I want an entire album of this!!! smile

Love the energy created by the contrast of the driving rhythms, the quick arps, and the soaring pads -- every time I listen I hear different layers

Keys are shredding dude, love it

The sense of urgency you get in this tune is reminiscent of the best time-sensitive levels of 80s/90s games.
It also kind of slows here and there to let us breath for a hot second and goes back to stress you into action.
I love evocative music that lets you visualize a scene, and this does it quite vividly.
Awesome job.
