After watching a classical composer’s music analysis video of Kendrick Lamar’s Alright https://youtu.be/qw_kAcPDpE0 , I was inspired to create an odd time signature hip-hop track.  There was a claim in the video that hip-hop rarely uses odd time signatures, so I thought I would attempt it.  I started with setting up Korg Gadget in 7/8 time, this ended up having a non western feel and decided to go with a gypsy scale.  The samples in the beginning are from a 1960’s sci-fi film in the public domain called The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.  I chopped these up in Koala sampler, and layered them over guitar I recorded inside Gadget’s amp sim.

If I had any MC skills I would have liked to spit some bars on this, and really fleshed out the whole odd time hip-hop vibe, but instead, I just took it in a totally different direction.  Switched the second half into a warbled pop thing.  Maybe I’ll break this into 2 different songs in the future…

got a beautifully nomadic feel with incredible uplift to it heart

yes, a punny title! Love the samples telling a story. I'll have to check that video, yeah this flows so well don't even know it was odd time sig, it bops, great feel and groove. Guitar sounds cool, nice playing. love where you take the second half, that's a great sound/feel for sure!

The usage of samples caught me right there and took me into the universe of this track. Between the 7/8 and the gipsy scale, this is definitely not your usual hiphop like track. It does change midpoint rather drastically, getting way more positive. I really like this experiment!
