Crushed and 80’s Nuts

By Monstrosus on January 21, 2024 8:00 pm

I have always enjoyed Synthwave, but never really dove into the sub genres or their meaning.  I recently went down the rabbit hole of chillwave/vaporwave, I guess it was off my radar during the last several decades. I had no Idea the Portlandia theme by Washed Out- Feel It All Around contained a sample of "I Want You" (1983) by Gary Low, and this genre involved tweaking with 80’s samples.

So, this week I decided to compose an 80’s style track, then lofi it into a vaporwave track.  I tracked this in Logic for iPad, with a lots sounds coming from Audiokit’s King of FM auv3, sax was a Logic instrument.  I then pitched down the final mix, and added a slew of bitcrush, pitch drift, and tape effect plugins.

For the video, I photo/video bashed some 80’s stuff including statues, because that’s a vaporwave trope for some reason:)

I had a lot of fun with this challenge, the idea of making something with the intention of trashing it, can be a joy.

I posted the original track(untrashed unslowed)- “80’s Nuts” to YouTube, if anyone is interested. Thanks for listening!
