the breakers

I imagined this as something that could be made into a theme for a video game.

Here's a slightly improved version to solve for some sloppiness when rushing to meet deadline: Soundcloud

it was even tougher than i thought doing this while traveling for business.
i was able to create a seed of something i liked on the m8 while on the plane home (deleted two attempts i made traveling there) but ultimately no time to realize its potential. i hope some of you see/hear what i did.

"lyrics" since its difficult to hear because of incompetent processing:

We will break through,
coming for you,
from your cruelty we grew
back down or face the force of True

we will break through
gunning for you
you slept - we grew
it's time to face the force of True

we will break you

For me this falls into the category of "what do you mean this isn't completed?"
I haven't even listened to the SoundCloud yet and I am super impressed. Such a well curated vibe, so many interwoven elements and I really like the glitchy vocals, reminds me of Kavinsky.

that is all incredibly kind things to say. deeply appreciate it even though it's not deserved. I like the Soundcloud version better for many reasons but the vocoder - which was the main thing I wanted to fix/make more clear - is just different I realize now listening back to this. I switched from arturias vocoder to reason studios bx-v or whatever it's called and thought I dialed in better settings but meh just different.

thank you very much for listening

such a slick groove from the start.  Love how the bass and drums pulse together with the lead synth.  Gave me some night drivin and/or Tron light cycle vibes \m/ nice work!

you sir are amazing. thank you for constant encouragement. I actually don't hate the Soundcloud version of this. it's not what I wanted but for the time I had it's not a bad idea.

Awesome, dude! That bass is so heavy and thick, really enjoy it. Just a solid track all around. I also really dig that it's got a bit of a different time signature feel (it's probably in 4/4 but it feels like it's going 123-123-12).

That percussive groove off the hop is so interesting. Really evolves. Love the vocal samples, they're very wierd and I am here for it.

Cool melodies on the plucky guy

For the call and response with it I wonder what the airy guy would sound like with more of a vocal/wah type airy patch to tie in to the vocoder that comes later

Thanks for checking it out, sir! It's 4/4 yeah but it has a movement to it that sounds a bit waltzy for sure.

Thank you for listening. The hard to hear vocals are me through vocoder so I'll definitely take that they are weird!

Took a note in my ever growing notepad for WB tracks in case I ever return to it. Thanks a ton for listening!

I wouldn't say the processing is "incompetent", just that the nature of vocoding makes shit less legible. It's normal. And since vocoded vocals are essentially a form of synthesis, your decision to put them somewhat back in the mix is also legit. I like the end result!

If you wished for the vocals to break through more, put a multiband compressor on the synth track and sidechain it to the vocal track with very short attack and short release. That way the synth will duck in the frequencies occupied by the vocoded vocals when you're singing. Adjust the compression settings to taste and should be a pretty noticeable difference.

first of all: you're a gem. thanks for listening and commenting. love that you're giving tips to me and other noobs as well. this one tip i knew though. i put some soothe2 sidechaining in to duck it. may have been too subtle but I also realized I'm just playing one note on the vocoder while i should have just stacked like 3 octaves or something of the same mote. anyway, ill try vocoding again in the future.

thanks again for this and for your past notes as well!

actually, i can't remember if i did the soothe2 sidechaining on the submitted track but for sure on the soundcloud one
