Not Coming Back (M8 + Synthesizer V)

By ModalModule on May 22, 2022 11:46 pm

So... this one kinda went off the rails... The original goal was a genesis-like track with bendy chords. Then it started heading in the direction of an Evermore pt2 (which inspired me to use the Synthesizer V vocalist again), but theeeen, well, it started getting groovy all of a sudden. All the while having changes that just keep changing. I guess I could say, it's very digifu imo. *shrug*
(this was streamed on twitch but in many chunks so just search through twitch.tv/modalmodule if you're curious)
EDIT: NOTICED WHILE MAKING THE VIDEO THAT ONE OF THE ARPS WAS A WHOLE STEP HIGH! I wondered why it sounded weird... That's what I get for being in a rush... Anyway, fixed for the vid version, but too late for the audio post here. *shrug*

Lyrics:
Not Coming Back
anymore
our time has passed
through light and space
to see it's end
and you can't
believe your eyes
and you just
want to cry

What is that opening sound? M8? Is that an M8 synth doing those bendy chords? Amazing sound design.

Yep, just came back from twitch -- thanks for streaming this. heart Favoriting & downloading. heart

Sorry everyone had to duck out of your stream for the M8 meetup on Saturday; the final song feels like disasterpeace vs the vocaloids. tongue  Speaking of: howtf did you even get that Hyperspace Light Drifter vibe out of the FM instrument?

Sadly, SO isn't over tonight to share the evermore sequel―listening to early WBs together, the original evermore was one of WB's defining early holy-shit moments for us.

Hey, thanks again for the praise on Evermore, it was really encouraging. TBH, I think beyond just the sound (which is basically just FM without too much modulation), I think it's more the harmony/progression giving it those vibes. As I was saying on stream I noticed when first listening to DP how a lot of his choices are ones I tend to make, or similar. It's like we're kindred in that way, or something. haha
I just finished making a YT vid with the chord names as part of it, so feel free to check that out and maybe at least some of the answers will be revealed. haha https://youtu.be/W-bhQ5EMja0

i'm automatically into anything with cheezy genesis-y FM bass

but the harmonies here kept me locked in throughout.  the sort of melody in the vox that is total nonsense if you were to hear it alone, but kept in vibe by the prog-y trajectories
