Let Fate Decide (random chord/arrangement generation)

By ModalModule on February 6, 2022 2:23 am

Another crack at music generation, this one even less controlled. Started by building chords into each scale number, where the lowest note was used by the bass channel, and the remaining 4 notes by the chord channel. Built 9 chords that fit together, and had SCG pick them per phrase (always coming back to imi every 8). Arps are picking random notes in the chord, and "melody" is ascending from the 2nd note to the 5th (sort of, depends on the chord how exactly it "quantizes"). Drums and arp have some CHA additions. And finally, CHA gives a 33% chance for each channel to drop out for a repetition (8 bars), by SNGing to an empty set of phrases. From there, I just did a live capture, and let it run untouched for 5 minutes, did that a total of 4 times and the 4th was the most interesting/enjoyable.
I found myself listening to this for long stretches of time without getting "bored" because there's just enough elements that have the chance to change frequently enough. But maybe that's just me?
Definitely a good background piece, so pop it on, do your taxes or something, and just let it do it's thing.

love that groove! (oh shit, i have to do my taxes??)

wow, this sounds gorgeous. The generative part is cool, but the sound design is on point

I love the lead-pad. And everything else.

Sounds awesome, well done!

so good! i would not have known this was randomly arranged/picked had you not mentioned it.
