Treacher Collins Syndrome Pt. 1

By MLDVR on September 23, 2012 11:56 am

First off. A word of apology to anyone that may be offended by the name of this song. I will now explain what it's all about and why i chose it, but i am sorry for anyone that takes offense as it is not my intention.

Now, i stumbled across this interesting project called Genetic Music Project  What it is basically is creating music from DNA patterns, or as it says on the site itself:

"Since all genetic information can only come in the language of four nucleotides (A Adenosine C Cytosine G Guanine T Thymidine) it is fairly easily conveyed in musical form"

Being extremely intrigued by this new take on creating music, i went out to find this sort of information, having chose Treacher Collins Syndrome because a young cousin of mine is diagnosed with it.

I found a document online with this particular pattern that seemed to represent the genetics of not just humans, but also other species, which i used as the 4 channels of LSDJ, in the key of A Major, the C is neutral, G is 4 steps up, A is 3 steps down and T is 11 steps up.

You can find the document here or look at this picture below. I intend to do a part 2 and 3 eventually.

The most appealing aspect is that you dont need a knowledge of genetics to utilize this, and same goes for those that aren't expert musicians, its all in the pattern.

Cool project.  I had never heard of this syndrome or the idea of charting music from DNA patterns, so once again, every week I learn quite a bit from Weekly Beats.

That's really cool, incredible way of generating music.
