Forced

I didn't hear about WB until the first week submission was closed, so this is my first upload.  It's also the first solo tune that I've ever released into the wild... Which makes me a little sick to my stomach!  I signed up for the project because I tend to never finish musical ideas.  I'm more of a technician than a musician, so I often lose hours to knob twiddling without any finished product to show for it.  That's why I'm here, to be forced into moving forward.

This song, well, I'm sure I'm not the first person to have high hopes that weren't realized.  This piece didn't come out of a musical idea, it came out of some geeking out on creating a drum instrument that can humanize a relatively simple drum pattern.  I work in Live and created a Drumrack filled with an Impulse in each slot.  Each Impulse has 8 slots loaded with identical, or similar samples.  Each of those sounds is slightly tweaked and things are set up so that a MIDI signal triggering that instrument - snare for example, randomly triggers one of the 8 choices.  If you listen to the beat it sounds surprisingly varied when in fact the pattern is fairly static.

A drum track alone isn't a song, so everything else is just me screwing around with different techniques.  Some chopped up and effected vocals (recorded straight into crappy laptop mic b/c I was too lazy to set up a real mic), and some sounds created using FM synthesis.

Anyway, thanks for listening.  In future weeks I'll be striving to write songs rather than get caught up in sounds...

Smooth. This is awesome work.

love the sparsity and space within. I imagine watching yourself from Venus when the keys hit. Alot needs to be done in the mixing department. Great start to something that can be great! Look forward to future releases

There are as many ideas to be found in technical processes as any other place, I reckon. Drums sound good, interesting technique.

smooth!

really smooth, love the keys.
