To Mardi Gras Papa

By miraclemiles on February 7, 2016 10:40 pm

Mardi Gras in New Orleans is February 9th. I have always loved the music of New Orleans and Mardi Gras, so for this week wanted to produce something inspired by that flavor. Would someone hear this and think Mardi Gras? Maybe maybe not, but I think it's still a fun funky groove. Started this about 3 days ago and began with drum-beat, then added the various key lines, and bass line. Had a vocal idea in my head and kept tapping out melodies on the keys to try and capture the melody. Not sure I ever did get the idea from head to track, but got some parts to play with. At the last minute, about an hour before uploading, recorded a version of the lyric idea with my 7 year old son singing. Played the bass and drums for him and told him to sing it however he wanted, and here it is. Cute (at least to his Dad). Like the lyric says, I really do want to go down to Mardi Gras this year, guess we should go do that lemonade stand.

I love the farty bass and the kid vocals made me giggle.

Really quirky, love it when the piano ties it all together.

This is so great--great beat (with cowbell!), ultra-bass, and your son's vocals make it.  Well done!

Thanks man. I think that was a Brass preset in Live ... Butt Tuba? Farty Brass (hey, almost rhymes with mardi gras)

Thanks - there's a couple parts of that piano jam I want to expand on / re-purpose someday.

Thanks! at one point almost brought the cowbell out, but no, must have more cowbell of course!
