Summin Goin On, Tonight

By miraclemiles on January 12, 2020 11:45 pm

Was thinking about how emotional states influence the musical creations. I find myself creating different sound or making different editing choices based on emotional state at the time. It can yield great, interesting results, or be annoying. I created these chords, and some of the more straight forward beats in a neutral but mellow headspace over winter holiday. Guitar collaborator AM Faulks came and plucked the strings over that. Then this week I was tired and stressed after work and I came and tapped out the beat in the beginning on the Push. Recorded unquantized as usual, and it was messy, kind of drunk (I wasn't really that drunk though). Managed to fit in some bleary eyed guitar part chopping, slicing and sample playing. Then the next night after work, doing some editing, I was also in that kinda lower mood (long week getting back to work after the holiday), so I just kept the mess and tried to make it work. Glad I did, I kinda like it. Finally just improvised some more little bits and pieces and tried by best to make it all work. Every year of Weekly Beats, I get inspired to get a little weird. Great creativity in this community!

I can definitely hear the liquor at work, haha. The intro is really smooth, lots of breathing room in there. F yeah PO12 clap!

Oh this is real groovy, wonky but in such a GOOD way!

It does have a bit of a drunken feel to it, especially in the more chaotic parts, but it also settles into some nice grooves.  And I fully support the getting weird.  Get waaaaay out there, man.  smile

This does sound mellow in a kind of reflective, easygoing way. I also support the weird experiments! Let 100 weird tracks bloom as far as I'm concerned, I always get some kind of inspiration from them.

Wow. This is fantastic. I love the non-linearity in here.

A journey, feels like we're travelling through a day in the life!

Hazy yet with remarkable clarity, I like where this took my head at smile

Stay a little weird... I really enjoyed this one!!!

It's great to let loose and explore! This track has so many moods and dimensions, Love the glitchiness.  Drums tie it all together.  Looking forward to many more of your tracks in 2020!

Extra crunchy beats and that piano just fills out the space so nicely with the bass and guitar.  Indeed all the WBers creativity helps us along the way!

yay for weird!

It's got a nice flow to it.

Stumbling along in the weird. Glad you heard it settle into the groove. I think I will get waay out there sometimes, always good to know the WB community will hear it!

Thanks, really glad you liked it! It's not always the norm for me, but I want to explore non-linearity more for sure.

Thanks, glad to see ya back. Agree, this is the space for exploration. Glad you heard many moods. I'm on a bit of glitch kick early this year, more to come. Was hoping the drums would help to bring some grounding and tie it together. Looking forward to more of yours too!

Love when that melody hits. Great build into it and very surreal bits. Really nice.
