Seek The Sublime

By miraclemiles on September 30, 2018 9:11 pm

Took some bits from a song earlier this year and built upon that. Made up some words, and actually wrote some words too. Only ending up keeping a few bars. Made up a bit about looking for time seek the sublime ... which the editor ego part of me thinks is too corny, while another, perhaps more sincere part of me says: well thats the kind of thing you make up and like, so deal with it. These drums and percussion make me pretty happy.  Have a couple different drum kits, on a few tracks. The percussion tracks and mallet instrument that does a little lead part are from Afro DJ Mac's Ancient Percussion pack. Vocals need a little work. I have a clean vox track, then an effected one using izotope's Vocalsynth. Some chopped samples from a Chinese children's choir record, and some random things from the files.

Lots going on here but the catchy rhythms carry it forward.  I can't really understand the vocals for the most part but they sound cool as another instrument in the mix.  The children's choir samples work really well too.  Nice touch.

I like the change from reggaeton-ish beat to an almost housey beat.  My words are failing me but the percussion sounds excellent!

Thanks ... maybe too much going on here actually? Always hard to cut things away. Yeah, couldn't dial the vox in how I wanted, but I like them as an instrument in the mix, that's what I find myself doing more often.

Yes! thanks! yeah, kept wondering if I should go with one feel .. but I always like the challenge of mixing different grooves / moods in one song!

I’m really feeling this one, lots going on but all of it has its place.  Love the beat change after those choir samples, inspired to explore the vocoder on the microkorg a bit more.

Simply sublime.

Thanks! Glad it sounded like things had their place. I think I like the second beat under the choir samples the most. Hope you try some vocodering, fun stuff, look forward to hearing results if you do.

Thank you!

These drums and percussion made my ears pretty happy as well! There's heft and crunchiness aplenty, the vox and sample work take this to the next level, great track!

Thanks so much! I love making ears happy. Glad the vox and sample work sounded ok to you, was less confident about those. cheers!
