Sedro

Busy week, and on a family vacation at the moment. So pulled this little experiment together with some recordings I made on my phone over the past week. It starts with the sound of my parents front door. I have been helping them move out of the old family home for a few months. We said goodbye to the old home where I grew up. The door makes a funny sound, and it sure was hard to keep it quiet coming home way too late as a teenager. Then there's the sound of my brother sharpening a blade before he cut a trail for our parents to walk on in their new home, which is on his property in a town called Sedro Woolley, where they will have a great view, and a freshly cut nature trail to stroll on. Here and there over the week I also recorded the percussion, tapping out something on a pill box, and the mbira which was conveniently sitting around, and a soda can. A little wind through trees on the mountain pass to get to the new home and then various voices in and out. This ends with recording of some family sitting around recording ourselves being silly, because we're happy to be able to spend some time together this week, safe and sound for now, making weird sounds and laughing together.

Sweet!  You made a found sound extravaganza and it totally sounds recognizably like your style.  There are some really cool sounds in there that I would have no idea what they were without the description.  I like the family making silly sounds together.  Seems like a really fun time.

Really compelling piece out of these fun, but emotionally resonant sounds!

Awesome, I love the home-grown percussion and the voices. Lots of nice intimate texture there. That's a very bittersweet backstory, but I'm glad you got to spend some quality time with your family.

This is awesome, love the use of sounds and glad you gave the description of the sounds, helps to put things in context.  I also came back from vacation this week in Invermere, a little too hot when the coldest day was 34 Celsius.  Hope you are having a great time with family!  Had to look up where Sedro Woolley is, love Washington state, hopefully the border will open up and I can come see it again.

This was an awesome creative experiment.  The door alone had a creepy sound to it especially mixed in with some verb.  That mbira is really cool, I wish I had one!  The family recording was a nice touch to the end.  Kudos to the family helping out! smile

Oh my god. you are so creative in what you are doing. There is always an extra-portion of everything in here. very nice background informations.

Thank you! Cool to hear this mish mash had a sense of my general flavor. Yeah, some fun times indeed. Nice to think can pull something together for WB with just some phone recordings and not too much time.

Cheers, thanks so much! Yeah they did some emotions behind them, making them more interesting for me for sure.

Thank you, yeah kind of bittersweet indeed, but everyone is healthy and in the right place, thankful for the family. I love that pill box, and blade sound, should make a sample kit and rock some more beats out of those.

Thanks much, yeah I always love hearing the stories about peoples sounds, glad that helped explain this little tune. I just looked up Invermere, looks nice ... and hot, hope the swimming was good. We go up to Nelson BC area sometimes, love it. Wish I could move up to  BC actually. Looking forward to the border opening back up too, strange times!

Thank you, glad the experiment was listenable enough! Yeah that door. It's always amazed me that sound it makes. Made it real hard to come and go without being noticed. I love recording the weird family sounds, hope to do that more.
