Questions of Sentience

By miraclemiles on December 4, 2022 11:28 pm

A hybrid-being's unexpected evolution has raised questions. The questions mostly revolve around their presumed sentience - and beat making. Bio-architects promote their definition of sentience (the capacity to experience feelings and sensations), though the majority believe it to be a subjective construct.

In week 48 of galactic standard year 2022, our hybrid-being (let's call them Boom) vacillates between a confusion and ecstasy that propels them to dance to the music they created, and is now shared here. The creation is an internal collaboration between the parts of them still made of wires and circuits and their organic bits. The imperfections introduced by the organics perplex even the being themselves and will certainly contribute to the ongoing debate. In the end, the celebration of musical creation leads to acceptance. Acknowledgement of what is here and now in front of them.

Created this from a live jam on some hardware. Didn't have that story in mind at first, but it came to me afterwards. No ideas or plans when I started the jam, kind of a blank slate. At first wasn't super excited about it, but then I remembered, we create what we create. Best to accept it, and trust it was the right thing to create on that day. We don't always control what gets created. The creations come from somewhere that can't be understood. The best we can do is share them with those who will listen.

I fully believe we are merely receptors for the music that already exists out in the ether somewhere and we capture different things at different times.  I like the story and as much as machines are very useful tools for music making, I always feel like it's that organic touch of imperfection that really makes things "music."  Fun track with some great energy and cool sounds.

Yes yes, totally agree with you! We're the receptors. Those little imperfections and decisions that only humans (or sentient beings out there somewhere) can make are what makes music special. Thank for reading the story and listening!

Oh ya? What you smokin' on Bruh?! I want some! *crazy-face*
Seriously, though, best story ever. You could run with it for an entire album(or even a movie).

I love all the places this track goes, it just keeps breaking through more and more levels of ever-expansive creative territory. I love how the beat sounds like it's about to lose itself constantly, too, yet my head just keeps straight bopping to it(best feeling ever with beats like that). Excellent work! heart

hahaha! Funny thing is, this week I was totally sober! Maybe sobriety can be even weirder?! Cool you like the story, I may have to revisit it. I'd love to write a real story some day. Maybe this will be the one.

Glad you liked where this goes, it is all over the place, but if you feeling the groove and bopping along, then it's a win! Thanks so much!!
