Move it, Ham

By miraclemiles on September 12, 2022 12:01 am

This is an edit of a Cyber Forest improvised session from last weekend with License, myself and Seven. I edited the 45 minute set down in length, picking some tasty bits here and there, then I muted some parts out from time to time to make more interesting, but other than that, this is how we sounded in the moment.

We stumbled on a new idea to get the creative juices flowing. Start with something you already know. In this case we used "I Like To Move It" by Real 2 Real. I put down some four on the floor, and License somehow amazingly just programmed in that bassline from memory. Then we evolved it over time to be our own thing. I took all these parts from the later half of the session once we'd changed things up.
One way we get the vocal ideas flowing is to sing about food. In this case it was Honey Ham. You can hear a little of that in here. We joked that maybe our niche could be doing commercials for brands, hopefully delicious food brands.

Oh yais love the sound of that main synth.  Especially when it hits the verb space.  Nice work!

I like the idea of taking something familiar and evolving it until it becomes something new and recognizable.  This has a robotic funk feel which is really cool.  I would like advertisements more if they featured music like this, I think.  Enjoyed the little chatter at the end as well.

I love the way the rhythmic drive is unpredictable, though the rhythm is a simple driving beat(like 4-on-the-floor), it plays with my expectations more than other beats like this. and all the synthwork, and changeups keep things flowing so interesting, feels like a journey through so many different dance parties, all with a similar epic feel-good vibe smile

Thank you! Yeah stumbled on that one browsing the circuit tracks patches, I think that was one the Cuckoo made from a pack I installed on the circuit, I'm digging it too, hope I find it again smile

Yeah I think that may be a trick we'll have to use again to get the juices flowing. I like robotic funk feel description. I'd perk up and pay attention to a brand if I heard something like this! More food ad brands to come no doubt! thanks for commenting!

Hey thanks so much! Mission accomplished, I wanted to keep the jam intact but cut it down and keep interesting in a short version. I think License and I like to keep things rhymically movin movin when we have 4 on the floor, gotta keep it funky and lively! So glad it resonated with you, cheers!
