Maybe Yes, Maybe No

Sat at work daydreaming about making music all week, and didn't sit down to do it until Friday night. Just thinking about what you may create when you have a chance seems productive however, because on Friday I got this all down pretty quick. Or maybe the secret (for me) is starting the session by banging on drums. Got started in the morning with humming melody into my phone. Later, with that tune in mind, I played drums for a while and recorded into the phone. Converted the drums to midi in Live, then started playing around, adding more sounds. The original melody sounded better after being diced with arpeggiator, and I didn't keep the live drums in all the sections, but did a nice big drum breakdown in the middle. When I played in bands I would always try and get a nice drum breakdown in the middle of songs, and would rarely win, so now I'm in control, its drum breakdowns all day long. Kind of nice how a phone recording, converted to midi and layered onto a few nice kits in Live can sound halfway decent. On the drive home from work, heard a story on NPR about a guy who had vocal tic where I would say something like "maybe yes, maybe no" I lot. As an often indecisive person, I related. Did a freestyle vocal take riffing on that and pulled a few bars from that. Seeds for future, better vocals perhaps.
