In the Newspaper

By miraclemiles on February 16, 2020 10:08 pm

This started in the summer, driving back from a homestead funeral outside a small Idaho town. Stopped for sugar and greasy food. Pop radio in the car. Later got out the Novation Mininova and did long vocoder session, trying and tweaking presets. Made up some lyrics about being "in the newspaper for all the wrong reasons", and "baby always right." Then some whistling and other mouth noises. Had some fun.

This week I pulled out that session, added some more drums and some bass from the MonoStation, and some chords. Happened to be having AM Faulks over this week, so he did some guitar to it. Made a little, or a lot, weirder as usual.

Nice to hear that, thanks for comment. Always want the kick to be big, sometimes works out!

Thanks very much! glad that bass came out funky, worked on that a bit. That is a guitar, I did some filtering and fx on it, that's me whistling, love some whistling for sure. Cheers!

Funky stuff happening here.

Really digging the voices on this one, reminds me a bit of Daft Punk's Teachers. The whistling is a great touch! Super funky track heart

Didn't know where this was going but when the vocoder comes in, it all locks in.  Like the loose jam feel and all the vocal styles. So many different feels to the track as it progresses. Nice work! Downloading smile

Man those are some really slick progressions you're working on there. Your tracks really move. I love the turntablism feel.

Glad you liked and downloaded, thanks! Yeah it meanders a little in beginning, I could see a new intro on v2. I was worried it changes too much with the various feels, but enjoyed putting it together didn't want to cut anything!

Thanks very much! I think the progressions were mostly happy accidents, but that's how it usually plays out in my tracks. Nice reference to turntabalism, I see what you mean, good call out.
