Hopeful Night

By miraclemiles on June 24, 2018 11:50 pm

Limited time this week so I made this track all with sounds recorded on my phone. Rhythm is tracks of sprinkler in my yard, water glass and beer can played with pencil while tapping on table (and someone saying "hey" in background) a water bottle top popping open, and a few bars of kitchen utensil drumming. The other tracks: Large singling bowl, my voice singing idea into phone, chopped up onto a few tracks. Time was limited this week due to visit to central Washington state's Methow valley. Over 30 miles rafting down Methow river through some big rapids. Good times, lovely sights and many mosquito bites. Part of the lyrics in the recording I used for this were: "another hopeless night". A little nature break always lifts the spirits so felt like turning that clip's frown upside down and making it a hopeful one instead.

Ingenious use of the lawn sprinkler. Much liked overall.

Thank you! Sprinkler originally made pull out the phone and record because it sounded like triplets to me ... in this song I made them more 1/16ths, will use them again!

Ha yes that sprinkler is cool!
But i really like your percussion work here. That glassbel really rocks! That bassdrum has a very nice tribal feel to it...

I love using "found sounds" like that and you did a great job of it.  All of this stuff sounds really cool and has a nice "organic" quality to it. The percussion is definitely really cool and that sprinkler is amazing.  At least you had a cool reason for having limited time.  Hope your trip was awesome.

wow, amazing groove with the found sounds. that's some serious production chops.

Thanks very much! I kind of absent minded tapped that beat on water glass and beer can and thought nothing of it .. then someone said you should record that, glad they did. That "bass" is re-usable water bottle lid popping open, and pitched down, agree has kind of tribal feel.

Yeah, found sounds are fun, gotta play with that more often, maybe a little more work to do that so I do it less. Thanks for listening and comment, glad you dug the sounds! Trip was great, exhausting, just getting recovered and thinking of next weeks song wink

Wow, thanks so much! Don't think anyone has complimented my product chops, that's nice. Slicing these samples up on the Push makes it all much easier!

Great variety of patterns from your field recorded sources!
