Hegemony, Let's Talk About It

By miraclemiles on February 29, 2020 4:54 am

Before we talk about hegemony and the importance of social democracy and resistance, let's talk about gambling! I sat down this week to do some mouth sounds over some beats and samples recorded from a recent session with License. I was first thinking about my boss who gambles and likes to play Craps. He rolled all the good numbers in Vegas recently and people at the table kept tipping him $100 chips because he was winning them money. A good day, but one day he'll lose a lot I bet. But then that phrase "hedge your bets" turned to "hegemony" and "hegemonic dictation" maybe because I was listening to news while driving home from work and started thinking about the stories and the politics, and that I'm excited Bernie's doing pretty well so far. Drum sounds came from License, his original beat in beginning and end, me resampling into new beats in the middle. Other sounds from Circuit Monostation. When I said "I scare myself sometime" it was for real. I had headphones on with back to the door and kept thinking someone was coming in the room behind me. People from my family will do that sometimes, and if I'm making weird mouth sounds about hegemony they look may be alarmed. I was left alone though. The stuttering in there isn't a fancy effect either, really me stuttering. Maybe the first time recorded! So cheers to democracy, looking forward to voting here in a week or two.

this is so good. Powerful. Hope you will win the vote.

Ha ha!  I totally get that thing where I'm wearing headphones and think someone came in the room.  I've literally jumped at absolutely nothing more than once.  I hear you on the election.  I already voted and am cautiously optimistic.  Sweet track, by the way, too.  Dig the stuttering.

Low end is nice and heavy, I need to listen again on my monitors for the full experience! It's very cool how the voice samples pretty much become an instrument!

Dude, digging the stripped-down composition on this one. When the synth comes in, my drums suddenly make sense! I like the vocals but I wish I could hear more detail, it's a bit muffled.

Lookin' at this crazy primary ballot right now! Droppin' that shit off on the way to work tomorrow or Tuesday.

This is real cool!
love those hats! And the synths in the and really round it up!

Rock the vote, rock that vote! Does it matter now? not sure, but lets do it anyway. I totally thought it was last Tuesday.

Thanks, I want to try more stripped down stuff, I think when I do edits of our jams is a great opportunity for that. Did this one quick, which helps to keep it simple! Your drums sound huge! You're right, vocals ended up kinda buried! Something to fix in v2.

Thanks very much, glad you liked. Didn't really win the vote, but life goes on.

Thanks so much, I've been adding more sub bass lately. Learning how to mix that more. Voice got a little buried in mix, but I really appreciate hearing that voice became instrument, always go for that. Thanks for listening!!

Some great drum sounds from License for sure. It's fun to save some element for the end ... though I worry no one will hear it! Thanks for sticking around and listening!
