Good Reflections

Created this for week 3 of 3 of the Disquiet Junto Magic Number collaborative project. The bass and percussive synth parts were from last weeks song from Daniel Diaz, where he added a catchy bass line to build upon week one's percussive synth groove creation from Noodle Twister. They had such a good thing going I knew I had to build on that.

For my contribution as the third member of this asynchronous trio, I added live drums, percussion, clavinet and some vocal samples. Live drums are much less edited than my past week's songs. I recorded them by looping 4 or 8 bar sections of the track, then recorded multiple takes using Ableton's comping feature. First time using that and its super useful. On average I felt like doing about 5-8 takes. I then just generally started with the last take and kept it if I liked it. Almost went down rabbit hole on keys sound selection, but just quickly settled on Arturia's virtual clavinet that had some nice Wah Wah, flange and phaser. Thankfully Daniel Diaz said his bass was in D major with D and A chords, so I was able to fumble along through the keys. Today I added some vocal samples I quickly found in my sample folder that I had downloaded last year from Noizz.

I love the experience that I went through this week, when I heard something and instantly knew I liked it and wanted to contribute to it. Wouldn't have made this without the great ideas for collaborative projects and great community that contributes to the Disquiet Junto. I hope to someday collaborate with some of you here in this great Weekly Beats community too!

This is really cool man, I love the asynchronous trio idea.  This track definitely came out great.  That main bassline, as well as the harmonics that come in later are awesome.  As a bass player, this is making me want to write more bass driven music but I've been very distracted by all the new stuff I've gotten into over the last few years (like synths, vocals and production in general).  Your additions are awesome here too.  Super cool drum groove, and the vocal samples in here sound great.  Well done!

nice one

Sounds like a fun and successful collaboration and a cool idea period.  Everything blends together really well and creates a nice positive vibe.

Totally agree that everything blends together really well. Loved listening to this one.

I love the laid back bass, with a great tone and how it intertwines with the complex percussion. Great use of vocal samples, they add a lot of character and color to the track, like taking us on a journey.

Thanks, glad you like it! It's stressful adding to someone elses work, you want it to come out good. I just realized again that I love bass driven music! I kind of knew that, but forgot. Now I remember! Bass is awesome, this bassline really caught me, I'm glad I got to work with it.

Thanks, good to hear to it blended together ok, always a challenge and risk. Yeah I love this idea. Some of the Junto weekly projects have some far out concepts, always interesting for ideas. I'm still going to sample your bassline from a few weeks back and try and make something ... on the list!

Thanks! Yah the bass is so sweet, its the star. Glad you think vocals worked, I almost removed them then I realized I liked them and I was just worried others (like the other collaborators) wouldn't. So I kept them. The bass player said they were a total surprise but he liked them too.

Awesome, love how this came together with the collab, nothing feels forced, everything sits together so well, and agree the vocals really add to the feel of the track

this track feels so good, easy and free. Good to receive such tones in this times. I will keep this song for my collection. Thanks

Really cool collab idea.  The percussion gives it a live feel.  Between the vocals, the bassline and drums you have an excellent groove going.

There is such a clear transparent quality to the mix.  All the instruments are distinct and have room to breath.  Love that noodley bass and the vocals.

Thanks! Yeah the collabs are fun. They really started such a nice groove, glad my drums and additions could keep it going. At the end of the day, a nice groove is probably my main concern for a tune.

That's awesome to hear, thanks! I so often get mud in my mix, always super pleased if it's clear at all. Yeah I fell in love with this bassline when I heard it, amazing work he did.

Wow, thank you! I'm still trying to figure out what a miracle miles song is, I do like this one though! Glad the mix worked out.
