Artificial Skies

Alright, let's do this WeeklyBeats thing again. This year, I'm planning on disassembling a lot of songs from some of my favorite artists and seeing what I can steal from them in order to improve my own composing and production skills.

Like last time, I'm starting off with a state-of-the-art mint pixel track to kind of set a benchmark for where I'm at now, and will revisit this for week 52. (For comparison, here's 2014's starter track and the followup track.)

I'm looking forward to doing WeeklyBeats again this year and seeing what you all come up with!

As always, feedback and critique are very much welcomed.

If anything, vox mixing needs the most overhauling for week 52, but otherewise this rocks!  Looking forward to more.

Like Pieces of Eight said, vox mixing needs a fair bit of an overhaul, but compositionally I dig it! Very cool stuff, can't wait to hear what you have in store for the rest of the year!

Agreed with Pieces of Eight, vocals could be worked upon a little bit, maybe a little brighter and tighter? The track is pretty decent overall. Love it. smile

I find the voice fits the overall "acoustic drums" feeling. Sure it could be improved, because voice mixing is tricky, but I'm glad to hear a drum'n'bass/indie track which is fresh and not overproduced.

Please, hope nobody would get me wrong, but although I really love Noisia and the like, it's good to hear some d'n'b closer to rock (even maybe this wasn't d'n'b at all for you).

And, let's not forget, It's great to have you back another year, Mint Pixel!

I like these familiar sounds, I don't pay any particular attention to voice though, maybe it just doesn't pop out well enough.

Thanks, guys! Glad to be back. smile

Vocal production (and mixing in general) are still my weakest points, which I hope to clear up over the course of the year. I'm hoping to get some new monitors soon, since I'm starting to hit the limits of the speakers and headphones I'm currently using, which should hopefully help a ton.

I'm also hoping to figure out how to more firmly establish my sound as drum and bass without jumping straight into the realm of heavily synthesized drums. I really like the aesthetics of processed acoustic drums, but my mixing skills aren't yet quite up to the task of making them blast forward like a proper d'n'b beat should. Hopefully, a year of deconstructing songs I like will help me figure this stuff out!

The drums and bass sound great.
