Happy If You Hate Me

By Minnamari on February 2, 2024 12:26 am

This song consists of words I wrote in my early 20's, sometime in 2012-2013, that I now built upon, a decade later. I wanted to create a raw grungey feel for the song. It's not done yet and feels quite imperfect. But maybe that's part of the charm? And sharing half-finished, raw songs is probably something I need to do to challenge the anxious perfectionism I learned while studying classical piano in a music institute that had yearly exams to test my technical skills. I'm still trying to de(re?)program my associations to music to be more connected to expressing feeling, however "imperfectly" (what is a perfect feeling?) instead of technicalities

So here this song is, in whatever form. Yay!

This is really cool! Kind of has a dark Portishead vibe to it in my opinion, like grungy triphop. In regards to your comment on practicing on being more connected to feeling, I think singing is the absolute best way to do that. Your vocals sounded very expressive and exploratory to me.

This is VERY good!!! And yes, the more raw feeling here 1000% helps set the tone, which is great! Dark, sombre and intense. I'm in!!! Also, super well done with the vocals, too!

Awesome vocals, your voice reminds me of Dorthia Cottrell! The song really works great this stripped back too.

Really nice piece! love the vocal melody and the minimalism with the synth. Still rhythmical and the drums driving it forward. Best part is the voice doubling that you do every now and then.

This is sick! I agree with portishead but I was also going to say it's giving bjork and thom yorke. Very cool track

I really love the huge sub-bass and lower register of your voice.

Your singing is so grounded (just started to listen to your tracks, and you have a very nice timbre and everything sounds very "real")

Love the break.

Favourited, will try to get back to your tracks week to week.

Thanks a lot! That's a very high praise to me smile

Thanks, I appreciate it. Felt like there's something to polish with the timing of the doubling, but I'm glad to hear you like it smile
