The Perfect Man

Here's another one take recording, sat at the piano after 11 and a half hours at church on Sunday. I'm taking much longer to get a song started. I'm pretty sure that's because I've become bored with writing songs just because of the good discipline of writing, and I'm searching for the thing I absolutely need to say. I cried this week singing 'The man himself' by Gang of Youths. And I underlined lots of quotes in 'The Screwtape Letters' by C.S. Lewis. I had a long conversations with friends about how hard temptation is, and what it must have been like for Jesus to be tempted like us.
I think I’ve got it figured
What it means to be a man
A man can keep a steady course
And walk into the wind
A boy will run whichever way
The wind would have him go
But a man can face the wind and still say No
And I will never be the perfect man
I don’t want my life to end up
Lost upon the way
I’ll lean into the wind
And I will keep on walking
Just another day within my Father’s plan
Just another day within my Father’s plan
They say there was a day
The Son of God became a man
The day he stood before the court
And the accusations came
His heart beat like a wild horse
Makes thunder as it runs
But he kept his voice as silent as a lamb
He showed them how to be a perfect man
They say that he became a man
At dinner when her tears
Her hands, her hair, were on his feet
Her perfume in the air
I’m sure he felt the rush of blood
The pulsing in his veins
The need to take her body in his hands
He learnt just what it feels like to be a man
