I Will Be Forgiven

By Michael Morrow on May 10, 2026 11:53 pm

This week I've been stuck on some lines from Psalm 25: "Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.' It struck me again how outrageous these words are. How can we respect a God who forgets? For God to be just, how can he overlook the wrong we have done? What was David thinking when he first prayed this prayer? Could he have imagined a time, hundreds of years in the future, when Jesus would make a way for his sins to be paid for in full, leaving no trace of them in God's memory? Could he have imagined that Jesus would completely satisfy both God's justice and his mercy?

I've also had one of Sister Carita Kent's rules stuck in my head this week: 'Consider everything an experiment'. There is much more to be said about God's mercy and justice, but here is this week's experiment in expressing in song the mind-blowing mercy and justice of God:

I know I’m wrong and you know it too
How can we pretend that the truth is not true
Justice demands I pay back what I stole
The law will not rest till I’ve paid it in full

Where your justice and mercy meet
I will be forgiven
No more guilt hanging over me
I will be forgiven
There’s a God of unfailing love
There’s a God who would die for us
To satisfy his justice
To satisfy his love

You make me bold to come your throne
I’m on my knees but I know I belong
Justice is done and mercy flows free
Lord, you are good, will you be good to me?

Where your justice and mercy meet…
