The Same Way That Bricks Don't

More Volca stuff this week. I've been fascinated by the attempts of some Youtubers to coax more ambient textures out of these boxes (rather than just banging out one-bar acid loops), and I've been particularly impressed by DreamsOfWires (who seems to be quite well-known in online musician circles...)

Anyway, he put this up at the weekend - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxUA68qNSTk - I loved it and thought I'd try a similar workflow. So it's a single Volca Keys unit running into LoopyHD for iOS; in my case, it's on an iPad Mini 2, running through the AuFX:Space reverb app and recorded into Audioshare. To be honest, looking back at the Youtube video now, it does rather seem like using an almost identical setup has produced very similar results, hence this mea culpa - wanted to get in their first before anyone calls me out on it smile

Anyway, I'm playing the Volca Keys live from a QuNexus keyboard, looping individual notes in LoopyHD which is also serving MIDI clock to sync the sequence that comes in towards the end. My take on this setup is probably a bit stiller than DreamsOfWires' - my tune sort of hangs there, whereas his pulses and breathes a bit more. But then, he did do it first...

Anyway, I'm really enjoying (mis)using these boxes - hopefully they'll inspire some more ideas next week.

you are well on your way to a Resofame release wink

Very peaceful. Thoroughly enjoyed this!

Really awesome sound here, it does kind of feel like it drags on a bit at the start though.

Really peace-of-mind-inducing drone. Glad someone is taking the Volcas away to unknown territories... they're synths after all, but the internal sequencer puts some pressure on the way you use them.

Are you syncing with the volca using MIDI clock or taking the sync signal and looping it. I recorded the sync pulses in Ableton as clips so now I could stay in beat with Teenage Engineering PO stuff.

One bar acid loops are the bane of mankind.
