Boleresque (for Tomita)

By mattnida on May 8, 2016 11:48 am

Very sad to wake up this morning to the news that Isao Tomita had died. Given the critical reappraisal of many other 70s synth gurus in recent years, he was surely due a second act any time soon. 2016 really has been brutal.

Here's a little tribute I put together, in the spirit of his classical reinterpretations. Instruments used are the Volca Bass, the Volca Keys and Arturia's Solina V.

Lovely Ravel paraphrasing!

Most of us Spanyards discovered his music through this piece:

It was featured in the fantastic "El Planeta Imaginario" (The Imaginary Planet): an excellent kid's show from the early eighties.

Beautiful rendition of the Tomita sounds, even more considering that you constrain yourself to a very limited (yet interesting) sound palette!

Beautiful interpretation
