A Game Within A Game

Once again, more of a technical exercise this week than a fully-fldged tune.

One of my ambitions this year is to master the Korg Wavestation (or at least the VST plugin, which is functionally identical to the hardware even down to the squint-inducing interface and the need to constantly save EVERYTHING all the same before you move between pages). I'm not ashamed to say that I'm on a bit of a 90s new age tip at the moment, and I quite like the idea of using the Wavestation to make "one finger tropical rainforests", as I've heard them described.

Anyway, to that end, this track is a single patch (or "performance") in the Wavestation plugin, running in a single instance in a single channel of Ableton. All the drums, pads, etc have been spread across the octaves of a single keyboard, so they're all playable at once. All effects* are in the patch (minus a bit of extra EQ at the end).

It's plastic as hell but I'm quite pleased with it. Definitely more to come from this machine.

* The Wavestation's effects infrastructure is absolutely hellish. Need to get my head around that one better.

Love that vibe, and delicate drums.

Why are all your tunes so sexy? I always try to come up with a different adjective and just keep coming back to sexy.

A great little tune. You are obviously not making it hard enough on yourself.

Good I'll use your adjective, you can take some of mine - awesome, brilliant, great, cool, good, nice. I to need better adjectives this year in WB. roll

From what you've described, this track is indeed a classy result. Like the detailed and intricate drum programming, and everything fits well together, never mind the plastic-ness. smile

Fucking fantastic.
"one finger tropical rainforests". Hahaha!

is it just me or does this one have a distinctly oldschool point-and-click adventure game feel?  either way, super enjoyed.

man, I was impressed enough with this track before even reading your description.  great ambience, the plastic-yness saves it from sounding sterile, ironically

I leveled up listening to this. Going to spend my skill points on drum programming and "one finger tropical rain forests". Great job!
