Petržalka

A few years ago I taught English and Music in Bratislava, Slovakia. Since then I have developed a love for Eastern European music. The school I taught at was in Petržalka, the communist-block housing neighborhood just south of the castle. It is quite a stark contrast from the look of the opulent castle to the dingy, concrete jungle where the school resides.
This piece started with a short looped portion of an old Slovak folk record slowed down to half it's speed. I played accordion, clarinet, hulusi, cello (tuned down and acting as an upright bass) junk in paper bags and a large bass drum over the top of it and then turned it way down, so most of what remains is the crackle of the record playing.
