Murder of Crows
By Matt Patrick on February 12, 2012 5:55 am
I woke up early one morning last week, went downstairs and heard what sounded like a dozen car alarms going off outside. I opened the living room window and heard a couple hundred crows which were roosting in trees and flying over my house. I grabbed my MacBook, set it on the ledge of the window and grabbed a few minutes of it. This song, which was birthed out of the experience that morning and I decided to use the sample for the intro and outro of the tune.

---Murder of Crows---
Between the moon and sky tonight
The world around is black and white
And a cold wind blows
Rest my head to fall asleep
But overhead that old elm tree, hosts
… a murder of crows
Like an omen to the passers by
Littered limbs, concerted cries
Presuming friend from foe
Feathered cloud obscures the light
Reeling from this daunting sight, oh
…This murder of crows
Oh Athena, you were right
I’d rather hear the owls tonight
Than to lie awake and wonder
What spell these birds are under
And what they have to chatter about
mmmm...
Phantoms masked in silken black
Looting through the neighbors trash
Warning those who oppose
Scavenge with their crooked feet
Meager scraps or spoiled meat, they don’t care and it shows
Once its found they don’t look back
They perch upon the branch and laugh,
Their highs for your lows
Elevating to a scream
The racket infiltrates your dreams, oh no
It’s a murder of crows
Silence for the sleepers
The night will soon give way
Be gone you tiny reapers
And make way for the day
