Before the Storm

One thing that I've found really helpful when I feel stuck in a musical rut is to transcribe other tracks and steal their secrets. Ideally, I transcribe a handful of tracks and mix and match the components, but it's hard to have time to do all that (and make a track!) in a week. So instead, this week is an "homage to" (ripoff of?) Pete Standing Alone by the Boards of Canada.

Pete Standing Alone is much lighter on melodic and harmonic complexity than the music I usually write, instead putting percussion and sound design center stage. So it was a great learning experience this week working to make a beat the star of the show, and I had a ton of fun mangling found sounds from a walk with my family into the percussion and ear candy.

Thanks for listening!

I can hear Boards of Canada which it weird because it is also not BoC lol. This is cool though, definitely a great way to learn and get out of your "palette", I think WB is perfect for experiments like this one!
