I like the stronger percussion in this one, it keeps the flow much steadier.

it seems thawkins mixes are a bit more on the mellow side - which also has it's advantages.

Sure seems that way. In this case, since there isn't much going on melodically, it's nice to have the percussions pick up the slack a bit.
