The Shire

By Lyons on February 16, 2014 5:57 am

A pretty little ditty inspired by The Shire. (Hobbits not bogans!)

Had a few ideas but canned them since I really did not have the time to develop and properly record them. This is the biggest roadblock with WB for me. People spend hours in the studio looking for 'the take' and when you're running 6 tracks, getting 'the take' is the most time consuming part and so I normally settle after 3 takes and mix/match the best ones on the fly.

I love the "space/depth" you get across in your productions, and this one is no different! Great work wink

Such good recording, it sounds so good!

Bravo. Capturing the textural layers of strings is f-ing hard. Awesome job.

Cheers! I've come a long way with recording in the past few months.

Thanks guys big_smile

recording and mix is really nice on this one. Another wonderful tune!!!

Really nice piece, Lyons!

damn, pls2record strings for me.

Love the real string sound.  Also I can totally picture hobbits chilling out to this.

Nothing wrong with comping amongst different takes in the studio.  smile  Lovely little ditty.

Great composition and musicianship! I just love doublebass.

I agree with you, from a vocals standpoint I often have a similar problem. I find that WB is challenging but helpful (I guess) in "letting it be" and accepting what's there now.

That, and great song. I'm impressed with your committment to the bass.

In time, I'd love to record some string tracks for people. smile

Indeed, sometimes you just need to let it be and move on to next week.
I'm still new to composing for bass but I'm really enjoying the freedom! It's an amazing freedom to not have to sit on root notes for an orchestra or jazz group.

Cheers guys

Beautiful playing and production. I guess you know the recordings of bass player Renaud Garcia-Fons (he plays with a fifth high string).

I love Renaud's bass playing. I aspire get to that level and have my own touring act among other musical ventures. Cheers smile

so in love with your stuff. it's so imperfect and also ingenius. rough and yet gentle. hideous and gorgeous, clumsy and poetic. never stop.
