world building

this week's track come together really quickly. my plan going into it was to use a 4x4 kick and a relatively simple bassline with the idea of building the track's movement around those foundational layers rather than doing anything too intricate. this meant i spent 80% of the time building up the 'main' 16 bar pattern and then removing layers to make for an interesting build up and progression over time.
i used some vinyl distortion to give the pads and bass some extra grit that built up as the track progressed, and some ping pong delay on the 303-esque top bass layer to give it some extra tone and emphasise the filter movement.
its pretty clear by now that i really like building atmosphere in songs and using a lot of small textures or 'natural' elements, whether they be foley, vocal, or whatever, to create the framework of my tracks and the loop based nature of composing this week's really leant into that as a way to help with any transitional segments and keep it feeling fresh over the 7 minute runtime.
overall i'm really happy with how this one turned out, i tend to have a hard time not getting bored of songs by the time they are done (or overcomplicating things while working on them by trying to recapture that initial feeling when an idea comes together) but this one still feels quite nice even now, so that makes me happy.

the last few weeks of tracks have been integral into figuring out 'my sound' and it's been a blast being able to confidently build on it with a sense of purpose. hopefully you are hearing that and are enjoying it too. let me know what you think!

thanks again everyone for listening smile

Your sampling is AMAZING!!! What wonderful sound worlds you take us through. And it all blends seamlessly from idea to idea. I can tell we both feel similarly about natural sounding samples. I use vocals in ways just like this. I'm bad about coming to WB outside of the weekly meetups some of us do in chat, but I hope I can come across your music more often. There's so much to be inspired by. It just *flows*!

Epic. Just so fucking good.

This is great! I feel like I'm at the club on a spaceship.

What an epic journey this one. Sweet earcandy percussive elements and super tight low-end during the main beat, huge space and lovely ambience in the wide open middle section. Mix is super tight too.

I'm definitely enjoying your musical journey, lots to learn from how you manage all the foleys, it seems like you have a nice taste of choosing them and putting them together so they all sound cohesive living in the same world, and the mixing is great, as well as the various section of tension and release, keep it up heart
