Late Night Radio in a Distant Place (Hashim)

A couple years ago, my good friend Hashim (Hash for short) sent me a couple bars of an idea he started for one of his audio-visual experiments. He asked me to remix it. I recently excavated that project and played around with some new ideas. I added a simple, meditative baseline, some drums, additional melodic and textural layers, played with a lo-fi atmosphere, and of course splashed in some foley.

For me, it evokes a late night desert drive somewhere far away. Hash was a freshman hallmate of mine and shared some stories about his family and their travels that have stuck with me. Often, our story exchanges evolved into existential, epistemological conversations. This project stems from that late night convo mind space. Thanks for listening!

This has a lot of layers to it.  It’s upbeat, but also hypnotic with its fusion of drum and vocal tracks interlaced with a sub-Saharan African feel. Really like the tension that builds at 1:32 to its gradual close. Very nice.

this is sick! favorited

Great mixture of sounds!

excellent! fresh sound and danceable. great transitions and evolution of sections. gotta revisit this one

Gorgeous. Love the gritty, rich, washed out feel. Definitely suits late night travel well. heart

This is so groovy. I can't tell what it is but there's some "crunchy" reverbed sound landing on 2 and 4 that adds a crazy amount of texture, such a nice touch.

Super awesome and you nailed the vibes. Hopefully you sent him this!
