PARTICIPATION AWARD
- Juice of 1/8 - 1 whole fresh citrus fruit (lime tested, yuzu probably also good), depending on desired tartness
- 1/2 - 1 can of Glissade brand grapefruit soda, chilled right to the edge of freezing (yes, brand matters, I have tested Bubly, Polar, La Croix, Kirkland, Waterloo, et al - all the others suck)
- 1/2 shot of cheap cooking sake (e.g. Ozeki) - dry preferred. Dry cider and dry white wine (I have tested Blanc Limé) are acceptable substitutes.
- 1/2 shot of Jeppson's Malört
- 1-2 dashes (8-12 drops) of Angostura bitters
- Enough ice cubes to fill a pint glass half way
Pour all ingredients except Glissade over ice and shake heartily. Slowly pour Glissade over to the brim. Gently shake or stir to mix. Continue pouring the Glissade over the ice; it's still good.
Drink this and congratulations; you will have participated in Malört without feeling the bitterness anywhere but perhaps in the back of your cheeks, and you may actually find it enjoyable.
(I am not a mixologist; adjust units and measurements accordingly)
