PO-12 / Octatrack Study 1

By license on January 21, 2018 11:19 pm

I had a beat going last weekend and it was sounding cool but I got stuck and never quite got the tires out of the mud, so I decided to do a little study instead today. It turned out way shorter than I expected, and there's some really obvious issues with it, but I just ran out of time. I've got to plan these weeks out a little better. Lesson (actually several lessons) learned, hopefully.

Here I've sampled a handful of PO-12 sounds. I tried to keep them as vanilla as possible for the most part, with the exception of a couple of noisier ones. I played around with the parametric EQ again, and I was hoping to do some more subtle, tasteful settings. Instead, here's 4 patterns of 8 PO-12 sounds with 3 Octatrack scenes I'm calling "dry", "loud", and "weird". I also chopped the patterns up quite a bit in the arranger which was fun in a tracker-ish way but a bit awkward.

This is also my first go with LANDR. I decided to go the high-intensity route, heh.

Quite nice beats here. The PO12 sounds are always inspiring, indeed. Wish you take all these beats into a whole track sometime in the future.

Thank you for the kind words and thank you for listening.

I also hope to use these beats in a complete track, or at least the techniques and samples. Part of why I wanted to do a "study" this week was mistakenly putting my weekday effort into the aforementioned doomed groove, and not having much emotional inspiration left. So I decided to do this more detached "study" as both a learning exercise and to gather raw materials. I think it was a weak to moderate success - at the very least I have some fresh samples in the OT and I have a general idea of how to use them.

PO12 always sounds much bigger than I expect. I like it when the beats get rolling and chopped up, there's some cool rhythms in there!

Thanks man! Yeah it's a weird little thing smile

Tight tones from the PO-12 and I love the OT.  It can pretty much to anything.  Cool set of beats you can dig into later.  smile
